Mystery and Imagination

Below are brainstorms that display the ideas that i have had for my As photogaphy coursework, they display the ideas that for me have a relevance to do with Mustery and Imagination. The first brainstorm goes in to the ideas that consist of dreams  

Planning 

The coursework theme for our project is, "Mystery and Imagination" 

This is the first of the planning sections, and this particular brainstorm shows the ideas that revolve around mystery and imagination. 
As shown they stem off into the sub-categories which consist of final ideas that could revolve around the concept of space, and out of this world. Also the mind, and the psychology works of the mind.  
It also displays the ideas, and links that mystery and imagination holds with the concept with dreams. 

This second brainstorm goes into the ideas of dreams, this was a very interesting concept to go into as you could initially have an image and idea to display whatever you wanted to show. 
The ideas and sub-categories that this brainstorm shows is; childhood, good and bad memories. Goes into flashbacks, that are both good and bad ones, they also show toys, parents, places that they went. Another category it goes into Desires, and into the unconscious mind. 

 

This third brainstorm goes into the concepts of death, that are linked to suicide and being killed. And from this it goes to the ideas of serial killers, such as Ted Bundy.
Also a branch off into the section of Horror, which goes off into, psychology- the mind, mental state.
And of Bloody horrors- Jason + Freddie.
And the concepts of fears such as, clowns, spiders etc.  

Sketch Ideas

To the left are two images that display the sketch ideas that i had for my final. As showm there is a first idea which is to have, a photograph placed over a fired place, that has been taken of a husband biting his wifes neck, which displays his cannibul side, however it is to be in a posh style, in a countryside mannor etc. 
The second image displays another idea which has been influenced by a film noir film. And this is to display the victim dead near the glasses, or in the reflection.  

Serial Killers

Ted Bundy

The way in which i would use Ted Bundy in my idea for my final piece was the idea of it revolving around the concept of a serial killer, and the concept of death, and murders. And he was known for strangling his victims, which i could replicate in my photography as an idea of a murder, and someone dieing/ or dead. 

Freddie Krueger

The ideas of Freddie Krueger, is to display the concept of a different way of someone being killed, and them dieing. The idea of a horror figure also would make the concept of a killer more interesting in a photography idea.

Jason voorhees

Again this concept of a serial killer, from a horror film would be a good way to portray a serial killer, or a murder of someone. Using the concepts of the killing techniques. And having the murderers identity a secret by wearing the chainsaw mask. 

Cinematic Influences

Eminem - 3 AM video

The idea of this video is of a man, who does not remember what he has done due to drug use. And i surrounded by dead bodies, which he has killed due to his psychotic nature.

 

Stranger on a train - Film Noir 

The scene at "2:42", is when the murder is seen (reflected) in the lens of the victims glasses, 

this would be a good concept to have for the final piece.  

 

Brotha Lynch Hung - "Colostomy Bag"

This is a music video of a rapper, who is known as the "Coat Hanger Strangler", who was a serial killer, turned cannibal  due to the lack of funds for food for him and his family. There are scenes which show him past actions of killing people, with different tool,  but mainly a coat hanger, to strangle his victims. 

Photographer research 

Leroy Skalstad,
An amateur photographer who was homeless, and was interested about the first image (Top, Left), was the fact that you are able to see what the subject if feeling, which is a big importance when taking an image as the viewers can see that they are in pain, and need help as they are homless their pain, and how they act through their eyes. Also in the second image i liked the way he shows a homeless person asleep, ontop of a book, as this indicates to the viewers that the person although is still out on the streets and not have enough money to feed themselfs. They still have time to read and escape to the wonders of a novel. Another factor about this image that i like is that the angle chosen was a good angle to choose as it is as if you are walking past them and just have a quick glance down and see they are sleeping ontop of a book.

David Bailey,
David Bailey a great photographer, who has taken many photographs in his lifetime and has shown a differentstory in everyone. The image on the top left i chose to be shown is because i felt that it had shown a great use of split lighting, also as it shows the subjects face in a different way, as his emotions are being shown to be darker due to the lighting. the subject is shoing pain through his eyes, but also screaming. This image to me is great as it shows many emotions in one image alswell as being a good angle aswell. (Portrait photography). I also like the second image on the top righthand side, it shows two people, who are lit differently to show their difference, and that they are different people. I also like how the background person is sought of peering over to the foreground person, and this looks as if he is a second head.

Above are the first set of my test shots looking at the simple ideas of having the victims glasses in the frame of the photograph, to illustrate that they have been knocked off, and having them in the frame makes them the main focus point
and they are in danger, this will be shown;
